Fire!! Fire!!!

Today I was defrosting the bread in the toaster for lunch. It was working quite well and we all had a sandwich so outside we went to eat it. But I had left a piece in the toaster to continue defrosting while we went outside to eat, and then obviously forgot about it. Someone went inside to get something and started yelling "MOM, MOM" so I looked inside and my kitchen was full of smoke and there were flames coming out of my toaster. YIKES!!! not just burning toast but actual flames. I unplugged the toaster and threw a lid on top of it, but the flames came out the side, so I started dumping flour on it, but because the fire was in a long narrow hole it really didn't do any good. So I carried it outside and threw it on the lawn where it burned itself out. I am so thankful it was not worse, my one kitchen cupboard is a little black where the flames got it...but there could have been so much more damage. A little fire but I found myself a little shaky afterward.

Gerard says this is what I do when I want new appliances...I burnt the hood fan black a couple years ago and got a new one...guess I need a new toaster.
